Elementary School Kids and the Presidential Election

Many Americans today are struggling with their natural born right to vote is this upcoming presidential election but, what many seize to think about are the younger generations. Although in America you must be of 18 years of age to be able to vote, there are many under the age of 18 that are being faced with the same questions.

12-year old Caroline Gehnrich said, “My teachers are all telling me that they want to get as many people they can to vote for Obama because of how bad it could get is McCain wins,” she continued, “I also heard that if McCain wins they want to have school all year –round, and I definitely don’t want that!”

Teachers are facing many questions at hand this election that will affect them for at least the next four years, if not for the rest of their career.

“My teacher said to get our parents to vote for Arack Obama! (Barack Obama)”, stated Elizabeth Gehnrich, 8. “She said the other guy is bad and if we want the war to end, to vote for Arack!”

Students go to school to learn and therefore, any advice their teachers have to offer, they will value. When mother of children Elizabeth and Caroline Gehnrich was interviewed she said this:

“Many times I find it difficult to question what my children’s teachers are teaching them in school because you want to build a strong parent-teacher bond for your children so you are on the same page. Luckily, in this case I don’t find it hard to disagree with their teachers but that may not be the case for other households. I would think in that case you may want to listen to what your kids have to say and value it accordingly and weigh out what’s most important in the election for you.”, Ann Gehnrich, 45.

It seems that this election is one that has gotten to the level of all, races, ages and professionals this year, who would have thought that students even in Elementary school would be so concerned in a presidential election.

Lost Remote and Cyber Journalist

Websites such as Lost Remote and Cyber Journalist are important today in our media because it gives the audience a place to come together as a forum to talk about their opinions about what is going on in the media. It provokes thought and brings about questions that people otherwise would not get a chance to think about. It also serves a purpose because it brings together media from all places online from many different websites. It brings together all aspects of the media such as video, sound clips and print. This to me is a great resource and I hope to see more of it in the future.

John McCain’s Ad on Stem Cell Lack’s Governor Palin’s Opposition

There are times when the vice-presidential candidates’ views must be over-ridden by the presidential candidates’ views. In this case, the object wasn’t even addressed.

Senator McCain is pro- stem cell research. In his radio ad he addresses that he approves of it for reasons of there being “Medical breakthroughs to help you get better, faster.”

This must be hard for running mate, Governor Palin, to sit back and watch because back in 2006 she was quoted in saying that she could not support research that would “ultimately end in destruction of life.”

Palin’s spokesperson confirmed that regardless of Palin’s stance on stem- cell research, that the McCain-Palin administration will stand strong on being pro- stem cell research.

On McCain’s side of the spectrum he hopes to relieve families of “the fear and devastation of illness.” Palin is now in a place where she doesn’t necessarily have to agree upon the issue but she will support it in the future seeing that the McCain-Palin administration will stand strong on being pro-stem cell research.

Glancing at the past- The Bush Administration on Abstinence-Only Programs

Planned Parenthood of America has taken a closer look at program funding a new grant offered by the Bush Administration, only to find that it will be “Ineffective”.

Planned Parenthood was formed over 90 years ago as a resource, mainly for women, to go to in order to make informed, educated and independent decisions as it relates to sex, health and family planning. Today, it still adheres by those morals. Many women today are faced with obstacles that were not looked at in the past but still, Planned Parenthood has been there to help women cope with many of the new and old problems that they face today.

What the Bush Administration has been found by Planned Parenthood to be distorting facts surrounding the funding of the Title V. This brings uncertainty to state funded programs. This Title V has not increased abstinence or delayed sexual initiation in our youth population however by using Title V as an excuse for an extension on funding this program however it will only fund it if the state will use the money as abstinence-only funding.

This presents a major problem for Planned Parenthood because it does not line up with their mission statement or goals. They want to help in informing young women in giving them the independence to make educated decisions to better their future. This funding would not help any of the young women to make independent decisions of their own, rather, restricting them from their independence on the choices they make.

“The facts are clear: abstinence only programs do not work,” said PFFA President Cecile Richards. “The government’s own evaluation of Title V found that these programs did nothing to increase abstinence or delay sexual initiation among participating youth.”

In conforming to these new and hopeful policies that the Bush Administration wished to enforce, Planned Parenthood has come to the consensus that this plan would not help what their organization wishes to carry out in the days to come. It is clear this is something that many women in Connecticut and across the nation would not benefit from.

Obama using his stance on Abortion as leverage?

In the following article found in the Washington Post, it can be said that Obama has somewhat of a unique stance on Abortion. He has now left himself some room to maneuver the everlasting debate on this moral issue on deck. Obama has stated that he endorses a "partial-birth" abortion and that he believes that this will reduce the abortion rate that we face in our country. This is something that both parties in this presidential election wish to see around the nation. With that being said some may say that this stance will leave the choice up to the voters, if abortion is an issue that they see as being on the top of the issues as far as importance goes. Below you will find the link to this article:

Governor Palin- A Better Fit?

It seems that Senator McCain found Governor Palin to be a more fitting running mate. For what reasons though? McCain's wife, Cindy, steps up and explains the decisions that her husband made when choosing his running mate. Another candidate, Senator Joe Lieberman, was an option but due to the fact that he had such different views on the topic of abortion, McCain found that their views didn't match up well enough for them to run together. Cindy McCain urges, however, that Senator McCain really wanted Senator Lieberman to be his running mate but was afraid that social conservatives would find his stance on abortion to be "unacceptable".

Abortion

Within the past week the topic of abortion came creeping out of nowhere and has now become a very important topic in this presidential election. With McCain having chosen governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin, there has been words that this will help McCain with female votes. This article discusses a recent ad where Obama's campaign has used this issue as leverage. Some may say this is just to ensure the female voters that Obama has and some may say it is simply an attack on McCain's choice for a female VP running mate.
